Run Coaching review
At Altus, we support runners of all levels—from beginners to ultra-distance athletes—through personalised coaching, technique development, strength and mobility guidance, and integrated recovery therapies. Our approach builds endurance, efficiency and resilience, helping every runner progress with confidence, reduce injury risk and achieve their distance goals. So it is always great to get feedback as per below from Steve whose goal was to run a bit faster…..
Bournemouth 1ok
I started training with Erin after 9-10 months of casual running with the majority of this time injured or recovering from injury. After being gifted 3 months Altus running coaching, I met with Erin at Altus’ beautiful countryside HQ a few days after running my first 21.1km (1:51:38) and I explained that this was the distance I wanted to progress in (natural progression after running 10k, right?). After seeing me run, Erin pointed out what I should work on in terms of running form and we discussed what races I would be looking to sign up for. Racing was not something I’d ever considered, but I got signed up for the Bournemouth Supersonic 10k in preparation for the Gosport half marathon in 3 months’ time.
Before starting on Erin’s speed focused training plan, I’d never gone 3 months without any form of injury, and I was getting faster with every week of training, without any increase in weekly milage.
As Bournemouth approached, Erin set the “A goal” of 41:40 (previous PB: 44:57).
Being in the white pen with the elites in front of 2,000 other runners was such a crazy experience having not been running for very long, but I felt confident and pleased with myself for following the program as best I possibly could. Official finish time: 41:38 (10.2km). Absolute best day ever.
I had absolutely no idea what the “A goal” was going to be for Gosport having only run that distance 3 times, but Erin and I agreed that 1:30:00 was not impossible. On the day I didn’t quite have it in me. Official finish time: 1:31:15 (21.22km).
The plan now is for a sub 40 min 10k in the new year.
Without getting a running coach, I doubt I would have had any goal, let alone a good one. I certainly wouldn’t have had the motivation to follow the plan to a T without the accountability that comes with in-person coaching from an expert coach and athlete. Thanks to coaching with Erin, I’ve come further than I ever thought I could, and I’ve only just got started.
